    Management in Classrooms

.
Research Findings
  • Believed that students should be actively
    involved in the classroom.
  • Discipline should come from classroom management.
  • Keys to engaging students came from organization
    and planning.

4
Teaching Principles-Managing Behavior
  • Withitness- the central factor in managing
behavior, when the teacher knows what is going on
with all students in all areas of the classroom.
  • -Make all seats visible and be alert to all
    sights and sounds.
  • Overlapping- attending to two or more things at
    once.

5
Teaching PrinciplesLesson Management
  • Group Alerting- gaining students full attention
before moving on and giving new directions.
  • Momentum- keep the lessons moving and make
transitions smooth and in addition have effective
    conclusions.
  • Smoothness- steady progress with easy
    transitions.
  • Satiation- students only receiving all the
information of a topic that they can tolerate. Do
not over emphasize a specific topic for too long.

6
Ripple Effect
  • Occurs when the teacher corrects the behavior of
one specific student or action and the rest of
    the class follows suit.
  • Allows small misbehaviors to be stopped quickly
    before escalating.

7
Conclusion
  • Many have found that Kounins methods are great
ideas, however, they are ineffective when put to
use in the classroom. Using Kounins philosophy
does not provide actions for misbehavior, only
preventative solutions, which is not a conclusive
    method in classroom management.
