4What is TechAtlas?
- Originally designed as a survey-based
recommender system for non-profits by NPower - Can also be thought of as a decision support
system. - Current content in TechAtlas is built around
technology management and planning. - However, TechAtlas can accommodate any number of
content sets.
5TechAtlas for Libraries
- With support from the Gates Foundation,
WebJunction worked with NPower to develop a
library-specific version of TechAtlas. - In 2007, using a grant from the Bill Melinda
Gates Foundation, WebJunction acquired the
TechAtlas tool from NPower. - The acquisition will allow WebJunction to
continue to develop TechAtlas with an eye toward
library technology needs. - TechAtlas use is free for all WebJunction
members.

- Designed for use by organizations that want to
have oversight of organizational accounts. - In WebJunction terms, we think of TechAtlas
partners as - State library agencies.
- Regional library networks or consortia.
- Multi-type library cooperatives.

- Less functionality than partner accounts.
- Provide direct access to one or more organization
accounts, but no high-level views and reports
as partner accounts have. - TechAtlas consultants can
- Create new organization accounts.
- Access accounts for organizations that have been
linked to the consultant account.

- Key pieces of TechAtlas functionality for
organizations to be aware of - Computer inventory tools.
- Ability to tag public access computers (PACs).
- Identify computers not meeting partner

- Can be customized by TechAtlas partners.
- Can be selectively pushed out to linked
organization accounts. - Can only be taken by those who have a TechAtlas
account. - The Staff Skills Survey
- Cannot currently be customized.
- Is pushed out to individuals by e-mail.
- Can be taken by anyone who has an e-mail address.

available functions within the TechAtlas partner
account.

- Create, copy, and publish assessments.
- Assessments can be on any topic.
- Current topics include computer security and
staff professional development. - Partners can monitor results as partnered
libraries complete assessments. - Can set up e-mail notifications when assessments
are completed.

partnered libraries. - Direct access to individual partnered
organization (library) accounts. - Summary reports
- List of technology planning goals for partnered
libraries. - Status report on completion of major areas of
each organizations technology plan.
18Flexible Account Structure
- Some of our partner accounts (state libraries,
etc.) have also created organizational accounts
for themselves. Why? - Can track their own technology assets in
TechAtlas. - Useful for evaluating the TechAtlas functionality
provided at the library level.

- Copy site manager functionality down to the
partner level. - Reports
- Sorting and searching options on Organizations
screen. - Integrate TechAtlas and WebJunction user
accounts. - Re-work the Staff Skills Survey to be
customizable by partners.
