1Step One
Al-Anon We admit we are powerless over
alcohol - that our lives have become
unmanageable. Advising We admit that we are
powerless over students actions.
2Step Two
Al-Anon Came to believe that a Power greater
than ourselves could restore us to
sanity. Advising Came to the realization that
allowing students to be responsible for
themselves can restore my sanity.
3Step Three
Al-Anon Made a decision to turn our will and
our lives over to the care of God as we
understood him. Advising Made the decision to
return the power to the student.
4Step Four
Al-Anon Made a searching and moral inventory
of ourselves. Advising Evaluate myself and
reflect on my strengths and weaknesses.
5Step Five
Al-Anon Admitted to God, to ourselves and to
another human being the exact nature of our
wrongs. Advising Admit to a colleague or
mentor my perspective on a situation.
6Step Six
Al-Anon Were entirely ready to have God
remove all these defects of character. Advising
I am entirely ready to be open to new ways of
thinking and acting.
7Step Seven
Al-Anon Humbly asked Him to remove our
shortcomings. Advising I humbly accept my
faults.
8Step Eight
Al-Anon Made a list of all persons harmed,
and became willing to make amends to them
all. Advising Develop a strategy to help
those students who have conceded control to me in
the past.
9Step Nine
Al-Anon Made direct amends to such people
wherever possible, except when to do so would
injure them or others. Advising Put this
strategy (Step 8) into action.
10Step Ten
Al-Anon Continued to take personal inventory
and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
Advising I will continuously assess my
actions with students to determine if I am
helping them develop or enabling them to continue
their dependence on me.
11Step Eleven
Al-Anon Sought through prayer and meditation
to improve our conscious contact with God, as we
understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His
will for us and the power to carry that out.
Advising I will maintain a network of
support and continue self-evaluation in order to
improve my relationship with students.
12Step Twelve
Al-Anon Having had a spiritual awakening as
the result of these steps, we tried to carry this
message to others, and to practice these
principles in all our affairs. Advising
Having come to this new awareness, I will
communicate these practices to others and
incorporate them into all aspects of my life.
