• The United States Entered World War 1 because
  they were angry at Germany for attacking U.S.
  Ships for no reason.

Causes of World War 1

• World War 1 started after the assassination of
  ambassador archduke Franz Ferdinand.
• The assassinator of the Archduke was Gavrilo
  Princip.
• Austria-Hungary declared war on Germany because
  they did not like their ultimatum for their king.
• Germany Declared war on Russia.

• France in treaty with Russia,declared war on
  Germany and Austria-Hungary.
• Britain, in a loosely worded treaty, was to
  defend France and Belgium because of a
  75-year-old treaty.
• Japan, honoring a military agreement went to war
  with Britain and declared war on Germany.

Prior to U.S. Involvement in World War 1

• The United States tried to remain neutral but
  Germany kept pushing the U.S. past the line.
• Germany kept attacking United States Ships.
• Germany Sank a English ship, Lusitanian, killing
  1200 passengers and 128 Americans.

1. The U.S. was angry

• Germany practiced unrestricted submarine warfare
  after they said they would stop.
• Germany was sending secret messages to Mexico.
• Americans were starting to see Germany as their
  enemy.

• France and Britain were allies with the United
  States and if they were to lose the trade world
  would collapse.
• Because of France entering the war Britain
  followed due to a treaty with France.
• The United States was forced to enter due to the
  brutality of Germanys warfare.

How it was Found

• Britain, spying on Germany, intercepted a message
  known as the Zimmerman note and deciphered the
  message.
• The Message asked Mexico to attack the United
  States if war broke out between the U.S. and
  Germany.

Affect

• The Zimmerman Note was to keep the Americans from
  fighting Germany.
• When the Zimmerman Note went public in the United
  States, the Americans were furious at Germany for
  secretly trying to attack the U.S.

• President Woodrow Wilson, after giving a speech
  on why the U.S. should go to war with Germany to
  make the world safe for democracy, asked Congress
  to declare war on German.
• On April 6, 1917, by a vote of 82 to 6 in the
  Senate and 373 to 50 in the House of
  Representatives, the United States declared war
  on Germany.

• Germanys Defense was finally breached and
  infiltrated.
• Germany gave up and signed a treaty ending one of
  the worlds greatest wars.
• The Treaty came into effect on the eleventh hour
  on the eleventh day on the eleventh month

• Germany would not stop unrestricted submarine
  warfare which was killing innocent Americans.
• The Zimmerman note was to make a secret deal with
  Mexico to attack the United States in exchange
  for a treaty with Germany an land from the United
  States.

• Wilson Asked Congress to Enter the war because of
  the Zimmerman Note making the Americans angry
  even though the Americans wanted to stay out of
  the war.
• Allies, the United States has to Help its allies
  because if we dont, then the trade world would
  collapse
