Tools and Powers
  • Case Intervention Panel which meets on monthly
basis to discuss cases of ASB
  • Attended by senior practitioners from a range of
    agencies
  • Provides a multi-agency response in individual
cases of serious and persistent anti-social
    behaviour.
  • Ensures that balanced action plans are developed
    around prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation
    and resettlement
  • Respect Unit are clearly watching the
numbers of ABCs, ASBOs, etc. Concerns have been
raised when numbers dipped! New powers such as
    Closure Orders on the way.
  • Older powers such as Dispersal Orders beginning
  • to be used in line with the merits of each case

7
Respect Housing Standard
  • The Standard is built around six core commitments
  • Borough hosted a Respect Action Day in May themed
    on the Standard
  • Looking at preferred partnership agreement to
    assist in delivery
  • This focuses on providers,
  • but the Partnership is here to help.

8
Respect in Neighbourhoods
  • Individual cases of ASB should be reported to the
    police while they are happening.
  • Then reported to Shared Neighbourhood Teams if
    they are long-term problems.
  • The teams can then decide whether they need
Borough-wide multi-agency help in serious and
    persistent cases.
  • The teams can use these real-life cases to inform
    Area action plans

9
Measuring Respect
  • There are 7 indicators of what the public feel is
happening in their neighbourhood from abandoned
vehicles, through noisy neighbours, and drug
    dealing.
  • BWD have done quite well exceeding targeted
    improvements on them all.
  • Weve done better than expected by MORI.
  • But not because people feel informed about what
    were doing.
  • People are also asked about parenting in the area
and whether people treat each other with respect.

10
Neighbourhood Engagement
  • Co-ordination areas
  • Area Agency Partnerships (AAPs)
  • Area plans
  • Shared Neighbourhood Teams
  • Multi agency problem solving (MAPS)
  • The neighbourhood engagement service shares the
community call for action in the white paper
    stronger and more prosperous communities.
