2The story of Chris
Chris sits next to you in your business math
class. He is always friendly and seems to get
along with everybody.
One thing you notice is that on a day of a test
Chris always seems very anxious and distressed.
He tells you that he studies hard, but he always
seems to get back grades on tests. After the
test is over, I remember these stupid mistakes. I
know the stuff, but I just cant show it on
tests.
STRESS
3The story of Sally
Sally is a sophomore going into Business
Management. She has done well in her classes and
continues to be a good student.
Lately, she has talked to you and many of her
friends about the break-up of a long-term
relationship with a guy from her hometown. She
talked to you about knowing that it was a bad
relationship, but she cant stand thinking that
it is over.
You notice that she seems to have lost a lot of
confidence and she is saying a number of things
that are very self-critical.

4The story of David
David has struggled with making decisions as long
as he could remember. Now he has to choose a
major. The trouble is he likes a lot of things
and has no idea what he wants to do for a career.
He has heard the stories about people changing
careers three or four times, but he does not want
to be one of those people. He wants to make the
right decision--now.
David doesnt get how some of his friends can
make decisions so easily. Even choosing a DVD or
what to eat at a restaurant can be a chore for
David.
Career Development
5The story of Zeke
Zeke was an achiever, an A Student, and strived
for being and doing the best. He liked being
involved. He had a part time job, was active on
campus, and tried his best to spend time with
his friends.
Stress
As he added more activities and responsibilities,
he started to lose sleep. He worried more and
paid less attention to taking care of himself. He
responded to the pressure by working harder and
accomplishing less.
Anxiety
Motivation collapsed, he felt guilty, he couldnt
sleep at all then he would sleep too much. He
started to lose interest in activities that used
to give him pleasure. He started to believe that
things werent going to change.

stressed than she used to. She also notices that
