- What is Alaskas FASD Waiver Demonstration
Project? - A new Medicaid Waiver developed by the Centers
for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) to promote
community based behavioral health treatment for
youth that may otherwise be treated in an RPTC
(Residential Psychiatric Treatment Center) - Waives some Medicaid requirements that restrict
eligibility for services - A 5 year research project designed to evaluate
effectiveness of community based treatment for
designated population

Overview
- Inclusion criteria
- 14 to 21 years of age
- Evaluated to experience Severe Emotional
Disturbance (SED) - Be diagnosed with FASD/FAE or documented
suspicion of - Medicaid eligible
- Meet RPTC level of care criteria
- Be determined by DHSS to require RPTC treatment
for more than 30 days without waiver services

Overview
- The FASD Waiver Demonstration Projects goal is
to serve at least 88 Alaskan youth in the next 5
years - The first cohort will be drawn from RPTCs
- The second cohort will be drawn from the community
