Overview

• What is Alaskas FASD Waiver Demonstration
  Project?
• A new Medicaid Waiver developed by the Centers
  for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) to promote
  community based behavioral health treatment for
  youth that may otherwise be treated in an RPTC
  (Residential Psychiatric Treatment Center)
• Waives some Medicaid requirements that restrict
  eligibility for services
• A 5 year research project designed to evaluate
  effectiveness of community based treatment for
  designated population

Overview

• Inclusion criteria
• 14 to 21 years of age
• Evaluated to experience Severe Emotional
  Disturbance (SED)
• Be diagnosed with FASD/FAE or documented
  suspicion of
• Medicaid eligible
• Meet RPTC level of care criteria
• Be determined by DHSS to require RPTC treatment
  for more than 30 days without waiver services

• The FASD Waiver Demonstration Projects goal is
  to serve at least 88 Alaskan youth in the next 5
  years
• The first cohort will be drawn from RPTCs
• The second cohort will be drawn from the community
