Title: PSMIP Goals
1PSMIP Goals
- (1) Reduce systematic errors and biases in
forced and coupled GCM used for climate
variability prediction and climate change
projection - (2) Use process studies to quantify climatically
important processes and to provide guidance for
longterm observations - (3) Ensure that process studies lead to climate
model improvement - (4) Facilitate collaborations with other
national and international partners such as
international CLIVAR, GEWEX, OCCC.
2PSMIP Goal 1 Reduce systematic errors and biases
in forced and coupled GCM used for climate
variability prediction and climate change
projection
- Initiate new Working Groups on Ocean, Atmospheric
and Coupled Tropical Biases - Co-sponsor workshop on Tropical Biases
- Initiate new working group on subseasonal
variability - Encourage assessment of IPCC model errors through
analysis of CMEP results and develop strategy for
responding to results - Support process studies for understanding and
reducing climatically important model errors - Support Climate Process Teams and CPT-like teams
3PSMIP Goal 2 Use process studies to quantify
climatically important processes and to provide
guidance for extending longterm in situ and
satellite observations
- Feedback to OceanSITES group
- Assesment of satellite and remote sensing
products and feedback to satellite and remote
sensing teams
4PSMIP Goal 3 Ensure that process studies lead to
climate model improvement
- CPT and CPT-like activities
- Facilitate infrastructure (internal and external
to modeling centers) for model development
activities - Ensure that appropriate modeling activities are
included in process studies - Compile master list of climatologically important
process studies and integrated data sets that can
be used for model development activities (Legg)
5PSMIP Goal 4 Facilitate collaborations with
other national and international partners such as
international CLIVAR, GEWEX, OCCC.
