  • water
  • industry is a major user of water, varying by
    locality and industry type
  • liquid trade wastes
  • hazardous waste volumes were estimated in the
    Auckland region in 1995 at over 4.5 million
    tonnes nearly 98 of that in liquid form
  • energy
  • the industrial and commercial business sectors
    consume around 2.2 billion worth of energy
  • solid waste
  • industry generates 45 - 55 of solid waste to
    landfill

If cleaner production is so good
  • - why isnt everyone doing it?
  • the ROI to business of sustainability programmes
    averages of over 70 - much higher than normal
    business investment returns
  • but business has failed to recognise and respond
    to these market opportunities
  • worldwide, governments, industry associations and
    service providers have a key role to play in
    helping businesses move towards sustainability
