Listening Set AsidesNON-Examples Activity?
  • Purpose to understand what it looks like,
    sounds like, and feels when listening set-asides
    are not honored
  • In pairs, one person faces the back of the PAC
    and shares a highlight from the summer.
  • The other person faces the front screen and
    listens to the story about the summer highlights,
    but USES the listening set aside that I point to,
    when crafting their response
  • Share your feelings as the speaker / listener

  • Purpose to understand what it looks like,
    sounds like, and feels when paraphrases
  • In pairs, one person faces the back of the PAC

    but uses several of the paraphrase techniques
    when crafting their response
  • Share your feelings as the speaker / listener

Multi-layer probing questions
  • Start with a statement of fact that is not
    refutable from a recognizable source.
  • Make an observation about the fact that is easy
    to connect to and understand, that opens the
    "door" to the question.
  • Ask a question that relates to the fact and
    observation, that is not a yes or no answer, and
    have it contain several answers within the
    question.

    learning in Science class.
  • Fact- Son, I know you had science class today
    with Ms. So-n-So..."
  • Observation - "I remember in speaking with Ms.
    So-n-So that she planned on covering fractal
    physics about this time of the year"....
  • Question - "Describe what you learned today in
    class related to fractal physics AND explain how
    it applies to our life at home..."...
