6Graffiti Prevention
- Make Your Walls Less Attractive to Graffiti
Vandals
72. Make it Harder for Graffiti Vandals to Reach
Your Walls
Erect fences between your business and public
property. This helps people know where the
boundaries are, and also makes it harder for
graffiti vandals to get close enough to your
walls.
If there are payphones and benches close to your
business that encourage people to hang out, see
about getting them removed.
83. Make Graffiti Vandals More Visible
- Use motion-detector lights
- Remove large trees or bushes that block people's
view of vandals - Use pebbles around the building to create noise
when people are walking
9Graffiti should be removed swiftly
and offenders prevented from doing it again.
10How is graffiti removed?
- Previously painted surfaces will be painted with
color matched paint - Unpainted porous surfaces may be cleaned via
pressure washer, steam cleaning or bicarbonate
soda blasting - Unpainted non-porous surfaces may be pressure
washed with approved chemical/solvent treatments
or cleaned via bicarbonate soda blasting
11The most common types of graffiti
- Gang
- Tagger or Hip Hop
- Hate
- Generic
- Snipe.
12Conclusions
- Today, graffiti is more evident than ever within
our communities - It's not just a "city" problem anymore. This
interactive workshop will expose the cultures of
those who are committing these property damaging
crimes
