Procedures for Beginning Class
  • Roll Call
  • Roll will be taken when the bell rings.
  • Students are to sit quietly in their assigned
    seats.
  • Students should take this time to copy down the
    homework assignment for the day and to pull out
    their journal notebooks in preparation for the
    days topic.
  • Tardy Students
  • Students who arrive late to class should come
    in quietly and take their seat.
  • The teacher will deal with tardiness issues
    after class.
  • It is up to the individual students to find out
    what they missed.

Taking Up Distributing Materials
  • Classroom assistants will be assigned to help
    teacher with taking up and distributing papers.
  • For group projects, one member will be
    responsible for collecting and putting away
    supplies. The teacher will signal when it is
    time to clean up.

Academic Warm-Ups
  • Students are to begin writing about the days
    topic (written on the board) in their journal
    notebooks. They will be given 5-10 minutes to
    write before discussion about the topic begins.

  • Student Movement
  • Students should remain in their seats while
    teacher is talking.
  • Students should raise their hand to request
    permission to leave their seats.

Signal for Student Attention Teacher will raise
hand and students will respond by doing the same
to show they are listening. During group
projects, teacher will ring a bell to get
students attention.

  • Each assignment should have the following
    information located at the top right hand side of
    the paper

Student Talking
  • Students should refrain from talking while the
    teacher is speaking and/or giving instructions.
    Questions will be taken when the teacher is done
    speaking.
  • Students should raise their hands if they have
    something to say, otherwise they should remain
    quiet.
  • There will be no talking during tests or quizzes.
  • Group activities and discussions are essential to
    this class therefore, it is important for us to
    respect each others ideas and opinions. And to
    keep our voices at a respectable level.

What do I do now?
When students have completed the assignment
given, they may do one of the following
  • Read quietly from a personal book, or a book
    borrowed from the class bookshelf.
  • Work on an assignment from another class.
  • Get a worksheet from the Review Folder located in
    the supply cabinet.
  • Warning These privileges will be revoked if
    students fail to follow proper classroom behavior.

Procedures Regarding Room Areas

Supply Cabinet
  • All supplies must be returned to their proper
    place at end of class.
  • Students will not be dismissed until the
    classroom is returned to order.
  • It will be the teachers responsibility to give
    students adequate time to clean up.
  • Students may borrow material/supplies for use
    at home for up to two days.
  • They will be required to check out what they
    need and will be responsible for replacing
    anything lost or damaged while in their care.

Class Library
  • Students may check out books from the class
    library for a period of two days.
  • Students will be held responsible for any book
    that is lost or damaged.
  • Students may choose a book from the library for
    quiet reading when they are finished with their
    assignment.
  • Students may sit on the floor in the library area
    if they want, but they may not lie down and they
    must make sure they are not blocking any pathways.

Computer Rules
  • No food or drink.
  • No more than two students at a time.
  • Internet access for teacher approved sites only.
  • No e-mails sent unless approved (in writing) by
    teacher.
  • No copying or installing software.
  • Do not share passwords.
  • Warning Failure to comply with these rules will
    result in loss of computer access.

Procedures for Ending Class

  • All supplies should be returned to the supply
    cabinet by designated classroom assistants.
  • Room should be returned to the condition in which
    it was found.
  • Teacher will give students a quick assignment as
    their ticket out the door.
  • The teacher is the one to dismiss class, not the
    bell.
  • Students should make sure that all belongings are
    gathered up and taken with them.

Other Procedures

  • Fire Drills
  • Students should line up quietly and quickly by
    rows.
  • Responsible student will lead others to the
    designated area.
  • Teacher will lock the classroom door once
    everyone is out.
  • The role will be called once outside to ensure
    everyone made it out. It will be taken again
    upon returning to the classroom.
  • Students will return to class when teacher gives
    the okay.

Hall Passes
  • Students should take care of any bathroom or
    locker needs prior to coming to class.
  • Each student will be allowed to have one locker
    passes and one bathroom pass per semester. These
    should be used for emergencies only.

Substitute Procedures
  • A folder will be located in the teachers desk
    with an additional copy in the office.
  • The folder will contain
  • seating chart
  • names of nearby teachers emergency information
  • names of student assistants
  • class procedures
  • lesson plans for the day
  • behavior sheet
  • This folder will be kept up-to-date by the
    teacher.
  • In case of an unplanned absence, the folder will
    also contain a list of appropriate educational
    activities (i.e. Pictionary, 20 questions,
    Scrabble) that substitute can do with students.
