Title: Butterflies
1Butterflies Defender of Wildlife
2Butterflies are brightly colored flying insects
with two pairs of large wings that vary in color
and pattern from species to species. Butterflies
have a hard exoskeleton, three pairs of jointed
legs, antennae, compound eyes and three main body
parts head, thorax and abdomen. On the head are
the eyes, antennae and proboscis -- the long,
flexible "tongue" used to sip nectar and other
liquids. The thorax is the point of attachment
for the two pairs of wings..
3The greatest threats to butterflies are habitat
change and loss due to residential, commercial
and agricultural development
4If these beautiful creatures were to become
extinct, we would miss watching colorful wings
glide and flit . We would not have beautiful
flowers, fruit, or vegetables. It would be a dull
landscape without the butterfly.
5To help the butterfly become more plentiful,
plant some bright, colorful flowers..
