Title: Of all the things that you could do
1Matthew's Shoe by Bruce Tone and Roger Farr
Of all the things that you could do Never try to
be a shoe! Its not a happy thing to be. You
dont believe it? Look at me!
2I do get outside every day. I do get out and get
to play. I go with Matthew, dont you
know. Where he goes, I have to go.
If he plays hop-scotch or kicks a ball. Or bangs
his toe against a wall, Or stomps a puddle--to
name a few, Who gets scuffed or wet? Guess who!
3When Matthew plays where doggies do, My tongue
hangs out, and I go PHEW! I wish hed watch where
he goes. Thank goodness I dont have a nose!
4Then, when he gets home, you know, He goes in,
but I cant go! Dont wear those crummy shoes
indoors! (Matthew's mother Loves her
floors!) So I get left alone outside Until Im
cleaned, or brushed, or dried. And Matthew's
silly socks enjoy The warm carpet With my boy!
5And then when Im too small or worn With holes
and places where Im torn, Will anybody care when
he Tosses me out And is done with me?
6Theres not a sadder thing to see Than some old
beat up shoe like me In some big old box
someday With other trash to throw away!
7Ive made Matthew's feet feel good Like shiny new
shoes never could. Hes worn me long and all
about Until hes finally Worn me out.
8Be a boot--with a blade or wheels, Or some soft
slipper someone feels. But the dumbest thing that
you can do Is ever try To be a shoe!
