  • Dear Families, March 13, 2008
  •
  • In our class, reading and writing are very
connected. We read many books each day and write
like real writers every day. At least 3 times a
week, your child will bring home a reading
journal with their reading book. Please continue
to read with your child every night. Then, use
the journal to write down responses to reading.
I am including a list below of different ways we
respond to reading. Sometimes YOU may want to
write me about the book and how your child read,
or sometimes you may want to have your child
dictate to you his/her interpretations, or
sometimes your child may want to respond all by
themselves! The main goal is to relax and enjoy
the time reading with your child! There is no
    one right way! ?

  • Dear Families, December 11, 2008
  •
  • In our class, reading and writing are very
connected. We read many books each day and write
like real writers every day. In addition to
this, a standard for Second Grade is teaching
    children to respond to literature.
  • Starting this week, at least 3 times a week,
your child will bring home a reading journal with
their reading book. Please continue to have your
child read every night. Then, use the journal to
write down responses to reading. Sometimes YOU
may want to write to me about the book and how
your child read, or sometimes you may want to
have your child dictate to you his/her
interpretations, or sometimes your child may want
to respond by themselves! There is no one right
way! The main goal is to relax and enjoy the
time reading and talking about books with your
    child.
  •
  • Below are some different ways your child may
    choose to respond
  • Telling your favorite part and why
  • Telling why you didnt like a book
  • Talking about characters
  • Giving a summary of the book
  • Recommending the book to someone
  • I am wondering why.
  • I learned that
  • The part about ____ reminded me of (text-to-text
    and text-to-self connections)

Letter for ESOL Families
  • Queridas familias 11 de diciembre de 2008
  •
  •
  • Feliz lectura,
