Review of Process
  • Process began with Committee Meetings to develop
    preliminary recommendations to Board of Education
  • Committee held (4) meetings to develop
    preliminary recommendations
  • Committee presented recommendations to Board of
    Education on January 13, 2007
  • Board directed Committee to conduct (2)
    Community-Wide meetings to share preliminary
    boundary recommendations and obtain input from
    community members
  • (2) Community-Wide meetings held

Review of Process
  • Community informed of key components used to
    determine boundaries
  • Students should live as close to their school as
    possible (neighborhood schools)
  • Safety Issues (minimizing crossing of major
    streets/highways)
  • Student enrollment should match with design
    capacity of schools
  • Minimize transportation
  • Try to keep students together as they move
    between schools (clean feeder patterns)
  • Balance schools by socioeconomic status,
    ethnicity, etc.. (to the extent possible)

Overview of Community Meetings
  • Input from Community Included
  • Intra-District Transfer opportunities for those
    that want to stay at their previous school
  • No mandatory movement of students at any site
    until schools are opened
  • Concerns about future high school boundaries
  • Transportation support for new boundaries
  • Open House provided to parents prior to
    enrolling in new school
  • Ensure proper placement of crossing guards for ES

Final Middle School Recommendations
  • DES, VES, WES, and CES to attend MVMS
  • ES8, RES, YES, and MCES to attend PVMS
  • Boundaries allow for comparable enrollments at
    both Middle School sites

Additional Recommendations
  • Intra-District Requests
  • Give priority to students affected by new
    boundary if they are in their final year at
    previous school
  • Give priority to distance if within close
    proximity to previous school
  • Safety
  • Have District Safety Officer work with City of
    Yucaipa to review crossing guard placements and
    add additional stops as necessary
  • Open House
  • Request Principals at affected elementary sites
    to host Open House in Spring of 2008 for
    students whose boundaries have been changed
  • Continue with Middle School orientations for
    incoming 7th graders

  • Parents to be notified this fall of new
    boundaries and projected implementation for
    August, 2008
  • Parents will receive final notification in
    January, 2008 as we will have construction
    schedule finalized at that time

  • Parents will be notified this fall of new
    boundaries and projected opening timeline
