    at GCSE.

How Useful is a source?
  • All sources are useful for a purpose
  • This can be as an example of propaganda, public
    opinion, statistics, politicians opinion etc
  • Test usefulness with OWN KNOWLEDGE
  • Look for purpose and motive. This affects a
    sources use to an historian. Possible motives
    might be to shock, persuade, threaten. Being
    able to comment on motive and purpose is crucial
    in achieving higher level answers
  • Avoid sweeping statements i.e. this source is
    totally useful/less

  • Be sceptical
  • Never totally reliable

    important
