2Correct / Incorrect
- There is a correct and an incorrect way to verify
I-9 documents. - To verify documents you need to physically see
originals. - Correct Present to the employee the list of
acceptable documents listed on the back of the
I-9. The employee is required to provide to you
documents either from list A, or from list B and
C. - Incorrect I need to see (document here) .
you cannot request a specific document.
3Sections of an I-9
- There are 3 sections to the I-9.
- Section 1 Employee Information and Verification
- Section 2 Employer Review and Verification.
- Section 3 Updating and Re-verification.
4Section 1
- To Be filled out ON OR BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF
EMPLOYMENT. - 1. Employees Name (print)
- 2. Employees Address
- 3. Employees DOB
- 4. Employees City, State and Zip
- 5. Employees Social Security
- 6. Have Employee check the appropriate box.
Make sure the employee fills out the date and
document number. - 7. Employees Signature
- 8. Date (this should be no later than the first
date of employment) - 9. Information of Preparer/Translator for
Employee, if applicable. Employee must still
sign in section 7.
5Section 2
- As a representative of USF you will need to
verify the documents that establish identity and
employment eligibility (you are not to specify to
the employee which documents they have to
supply). The documents selected by the employee
will determine which list you will complete List
A or List B and C. - 1. The date that the employee will be starting
employment. - 2. Your Signature
- 3. Print Your Name
- 4. Your Title
- 5. USF
- 6. Date you verified documents. This date can
be no later than 3 days from the start of their
employment.
6Section 3
- Section 3 is to be filled out by the employer
only if the employee is updating expired
information, or has been asked to submit a new
I-9 form with updated information.

9Document Provided Unexpired Foreign Passport for
a Student Employee (on an F1 Visa)
You will need an Unexpired Foreign Passport, USA
Visa with an I-94 Stamp, and an I-20 Document
issued from ISSS

Documents
Passport
- Inside the passport you will find its
expiration date, issuing country, and document
number. You will also find a Visa issued by the
USA. Above the Visa will be the I-94. The
I-94 is the supporting document for the passport.
You will need the departure number off of the
I-94 (this is also the A or Alien ). The I-20
will provide the expiration date for the I-94.
