Concept isnt new
  • October 2002 -- Kirbys Senate report on future
    of healthcare.
  • November 2002 -- Romanows Building on Values
    the future of Health Care in Canada.
  • February 2003 -- Accord on Health Care Renewal
    federal commitment to increase healthcare
    spending over 5 years.
  • November 2003 -- Council of Federation created.
    Increasing government concern over rate of growth
    in drug plan costs
  • Spring 2004 Liberal Partys wait-time reduction
    plan also included a catastrophic drug plan.
  • July 2004 -- Council of Federation
    Niagara-on-the-Lake proposal for national
    pharma-care program.
  • September 2004 -- Ten Year Health Accord Task
    Force to review NPS also includes reference to a
    national catastrophic drug plan.
  • November 2005 NDP election platform
    specifically calls for a national catastrophic
    drug plan. All party support for some sort of
    drug plan that ensures Canadians ae not unduly
    burdened by costs of prescribed medications.

    core jurisdictional responsibilities.
