Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Union Football Club
A Campaign to Provide Facilities for Kirkby
Lonsdale and Surrounding Communitiesat Underley
Park
Community Amateur Sports Club Reg No
03694 Incorporated under the Industrial and
Provident Societies Act 1965 Reg No 46R
2The Aim
The purpose of the appeal is to raise 780,000 to
provide adequate facilities at Underley Park to
cope with the existing, hugely successful Mini,
Youth and Colts along with a variety of other
Community events that use the site. The funds
will be used to Build an additional 8
Changing Rooms (including 2 female Changing
Rooms) Develop 4 new pitches to make them
fully playable Extend the kitchen area to
help cater for all the visitors to the site
Improve the toilet provision Build a
new road to improve access and parking
Improve the floodlighting and reduce
pollution The urgent need for the facilities
means that we are looking to start works in 2008
and the project is due to be completed in 2009.
From a standing start, we have gathered together
a great deal of support already and are now
looking for the final push to help turn these
plans into reality. Please look at the plans for
both the building and Underley Park to see where
and how the facilities will be hugely improved to
enable a much wider community use than currently
available, with playing fields for any activity
and plans to develop archery and hopefully
tennis.
Problem The existing facilities were not
designed to cope with current needs
3Some Background - for those that are just
visiting
- Kirkby Lonsdale is a small market town with a
resident population of about 2000, generally at
the greyer end of the scale, nestled between the
Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. - Its geographical position in the South East
corner of Cumbria means that it draws visitors
and support, both young and old, from Cumbria,
Lancashire and North Yorkshire. - Kirkby Lonsdale RUFC is a Community based Club
with an extensive Mini, Youth and Colts set up,
providing 30 Volunteer coaches for about 300
players and access to a lifetime of Rugby for all
ages, from Under 7 to Over 70. - The Club provides a base for the towns Brass
Band to practice twice a week and the pitches are
used for the KL Rounders Team, along with holiday
sports clubs with South Lakeland District
Council. - Underley Park is also the base for the Kirkby
Lonsdale Bonfire and the Lunesdale Agricultural
Show along with Charity Suppers, fundraising for
the Northwest Air Ambulance and MND and
Balloonists. - The Clubhouse is used by the KL Hockey and
Cricket Clubs for social events and the Club
provides access to its website to a number of
sports and local organisations to help the
information flow. - In 2007, KLRUFC was awarded Year 3 Seal of
Approval, one of only 20 Clubs in the country and
linked with Sale Sharks as a Shark Mark Club in
November 2007. The RFU has agreed to help with
about half of the necessary requirements - With over 25,000 visitors to the site each
year, 3 washbasins and no female changing is not
enough.
We recognise that self-help is option one and we
have to fill the gap
