CPPIH national picture

• 572 Patients Forums in England
• 5,000 volunteers
• Over 7,000 training days for Forum members
• Nearly 1,800 meetings of Forums already held
• CPPIH budget 33.3 million. Vast majority
  allocated to supporting Forums CPPIH has 140
  staff in its 10 offices
• Forums are only six months old, but many are
  already starting to make a difference up and down
  the country

• 31 regional meetings held in May across 9 regions
• 1200 Forum members attended
• Forum members met national and regional CPPIH
  staff
• Key concerns used to develop action plan

• Forum development fund
• Flexibility to increase Forum membership where
  required

• Choosing Health consultation questions discussed

  hospital Trusts
• 6 Forum Support Organisations
• London PPI Forum activities
• Informal meetings / First public meetings
  attended by the public, Chairs, Chief Executives
  and PPI Leads for Trusts
• Raising awareness locally through the media,
  local communities and groups
• Priority setting / work plans

PPI Forum activities in London

• Examples include
• PPI Forum Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental
  Health worked with local user groups to highlight
  possible effects of reducing funding for travel
  passes for mental health service users. The
  subsidy was not cut.
• PPI Forum Barts The London NHS Trust PPI Forum
  is working with the Trust to establish a Children
  and Young Peoples Forum to address health needs
  of people of diverse backgrounds aged 18 or
  below. Parents and carers would also be involved.
  
• Queen Marys Hospital NHS Trust PPI Forum is
  concerned about the care pathways for stroke and
  are working with the Bexley Stroke Support Group,
  the local PCT and Mental Health Trust Forums to
  identify the key issues for patients and their
  carers.

Future priorities

• Improving support for Forums via CPPIH and FSOs
• Recruitment additional Forum members where
  required
• Knowledge Management System to exchange best
  practice and extend health discussions
• Drawing out themes from workplans and linking
  Forums working on similar issues
• Forums putting workplans into action the real
  business of PPI
