• The Moslem religion
• Originated in the Middle East, ancient city of
  Mecca, located in Saudi Arabia
• In 610 A.D the prophet Mohammed began to describe
  messages he said the Angel of Gabriel had given
  him from God
• These beliefs were written down in Islams holy
  book- Koran

The Koran

• Teaches Moslems how they are to worship
• According to Islam God or Allah demands strict
  obedience of all his laws
• All Moslems must follow five main duties or
  pillars
• 1. must profess belief in God and in Mohammed as
  Gods prophet
• 2. Pray five times a day in the direction of Mecca

Five Pillars Continued

• 3. Must give Alms to the poor
• 4. fast during the special month of Ramadan
• 5. And if possible, must make a pilgrimage to
  Moslem holy city of Mecca at least once in
  lifetime

Islam

• Like Christians, Moslems believe in life after
  death
• They believe Allah will send the good to heaven
  and the bad to hell
• There is no weekly day of rest, but on Friday all
  males must attend prayers at a mosque

  East- the Arab people
• Today there are more non-Arab Moslems than Arab
  Moslem
• Around 800 million Moslems in the world
