Internal deadlines for preliminary applications

• Notice of intent 15th Feb
• Test Your Concept review panel 29th Feb
• 15 minute presentation followed by QA from
  panel.
• Pre-formatted Power Point slides requesting
  information on how your project addresses NSERC
  objectives, alignment with NSERC and University
  priorities, fit with eligibility etc.

Internal panel objectives

• To see how the project fits with University
  priorities
• Measure whether the concept is developed
  sufficiently to be competitive this year
• Fit with the program is it a network concept?
• Is there an industry partner already identified?
• Can the project succeed without NSERC funding?

Strategic workshops

• Subject to panel endorsement, option to run a
  strategic workshop to gather researchers and
  expertise from across Canada to write the
  preliminary application
• Research Services may be able to provide support
  to write these workshop applications (anticipate
  19/20 March).
• Applicants can apply to NSERC for up to 25,000
  towards workshop costs.

Internal timescales

• Submission of workshop applications by 28th March
• Results from NSERC by mid April (hopefully)
• Workshops to take place end of April
• Applicants work on final draft preliminary
  applications throughout May
• Submit draft preliminary application to Research
  Services 1st June
• SMART team review
• Final submission to NSERC 20th June
