(Pearls Sunday School teacher and family

School Secretary)
Setting It is a mid-August morning in Onarga,
Illinois (a small town in central Illinois). The
sun is shining and gentle breezes blow in the
quiet air.

Are you excited about starting kindergarten,
Pearl?
Yes! I hope I get you for a teacher, Mrs.
Hamilton!!

Since weve been reading together a lot, I
thought you might like this.

Hamilton, Im quitting school. Ill just be a
lifeguard instead of going to school
Honey, everything is going to be just fine. Even
if you dont get Mrs. Hamilton, all the
kindergarten teachers are wonderful and you will
have lots and lots of fun with them

Now whos gonna help me read The Gingerbread Man,
Mom? Mrs. Hamilton wont have time for me now and
Ill never get to see her!
Pearl, even though Mrs. Hamilton isnt your
teacher, youll still get to see her every single
day. You might see her in the hallway or at
lunch or even recess. Plus you will still get to
see her every Sunday at church. Everything will
be just fine, youll see. Pearl smiles a little
and they head inside.
