Modules
  • 6 modules per year 3 per semester
  • Contact time with lecturers and demonstrators is
    typically 5/6 hours per week per module
  • This contact time is divided into lectures,
    practicals and tutorials
  • Each module requires 200 hours of work lectures,
    labs, independent study etc.. Average of 40 hours
    effort per week required by every student for all
    the modules

Studies Advice
  • All students are allocated a Studies Adviser
  • Studies Advisers are your first point of contact
    to
  • Discuss modules - lectures, practicals, study
    skills etc.
  • Alert to personal problems
  • Your Studies Adviser is your Project Supervisor
  • Once allocated, you should arrange regular
    meetings

  • 12 week teaching period from now to Christmas
  • Study week and examinations in January
  • Then Semester 2 starts new timetable available
    in January

Student Representatives
  • For every year of every course there is a Student
    Representative
  • Volunteers are needed this week the first
    meeting is on 17th October
  • Student Reps receive training to support them in
    their role
  • They attend a Staff Student Consultative
    Committee each semester and bring any issues
    (good/bad) to the attention of staff

  • This is a very important role
  • Keep in touch with the rest of the year group
  • Make sure the group know who the Student Rep is
  • Contact the group for feedback to take to the
    SSCC
  • Feedback the response to the whole group

Performance on modules
  • Pass mark for all undergraduate modules is 40.
    If a module has both coursework and examination,
    then both elements must be passed
  • You cannot choose to redo coursework if you think
    you didnt do well enough try to get it right
    first time!
  • There are lots of rules and regulations for
    resits dont assume, please look them up or ASK
