BEE Safe Framework
  • The BEE Safe Framework links together all the
    individual projects commenced post Audit and
    provides an integrated coordinated approach to
    Health Safety issues.
  • OBJECTIVE
  • To reduce the risk of accidents and assure
    compliance with university and statutory
    requirements for Workplace Health Safety

Health Safety Coordinator
  • Full Time, Fixed Term Position (two years)
  • Coordinate Health Safety requirements within
    the Faculty
  • Develop implement policies, systems
    procedures related to Health Safety
  • Develop implement training systems for staff
    students
  • Provides Health Safety advice

Workplace Health Safety Officer (WHSO)
  • Appointed by management to provide advice on HS
    matters in their allocated areas.
  • Eyes Ears at the Coal Face for Health
    Safety related matters.
  • Specific responsibilities within their Precinct
    incl
  • Conducting inspections, reporting hazards
    unsafe practices, providing advice and
    instruction, investigating accidents incidents.
    (Refer MOPP Chap A/9.2)
  • NOTE
  • Managers Supervisors are responsible for the
    state of HS in their area
  • Managers Supervisors are required to co-operate
    and provide the necessary time and assistance to
    allow WHSO to carry out their statutory duties

Workplace Health Safety Representative (WHSR)
  • WHSR are elected by co-workers to act as their
    representative in health safety matters in
    talks with QUT and BEE management
  • They are entitled to carry out a range of
    functions incl
  • To inspect their workplace, be advised on change,
    represent the concerns of staff, make
    recommendations, review safety plans, assist with
    HS problem resolution, report safety problems to
    WHSO or management, report HS inaction to
    Division of Workplace Health Safety.
  • Covered by legislation and MOPP Chap A/9.2.3
  • Training available at no cost to WHSR

  • Elections arranged if required
  • 5 days training recommended conducted by QUT HR
    Health Safety Advisory Service at no cost

Faculty PolicyStaff Health Safety Training
  • All BEE staff are required to undertake Health
    Safety Induction training at least once every
    three years.
  • Six months amnesty period for staff that have not
    attended within the past three years ends March
    2007.
  • Faculty of Science conduct regular staff health
    and safety inductions.
  • An on-line version is under construction for
    sessional, temporary and new staff to undertake
    prior to attendance at the Science session.
