Compliance
  • Its the law you must declare your hazardous
    materials to the airline, air package carrier, or
    U.S. postal Service. Violators may be subject to
    civil penalty of up to 25,000 per violation and,
    in appropriate cases, a criminal penalty of up to
    500,000 and/or imprisonment up to 5 years.

  • Who must have training?
  • Any warehouse staff who are involved in the
    acceptance process.
  • Any agency staff acting on behalf of a forwarder
  • Customer Service staff of freight forwarders who
    are involved in processing of dangerous goods
    shipments.
  • Any staff involved in handling, storage or
    loading of cargo.

    can be found in each office.

  • What is a dangerous good?
  • 3.1.1.1 - DG Goods are defined as those goods
    which meet the criteria of one or more of the
    nine UN hazard classes and, where applicable to
    one of three UN packing groups according to the
    provisions of this section.
  • The nine classes relate to the type of hazard
    whereas the packing groups relate to the
    applicable degree of danger within the class

How to Complete Shippers DG Declaration
  • Notate Shipper Consignee information
  • Notate Proper Shipping Name (P.S.N.), Class or
    Division, UN number, the Packing group.
  • Notate type of packing
  • Notate Packing Instructions
  • Notate Emergency Procedures 24hr contact
  • Signature of Shipper or Agent - at no time is CFI
    to sign the Declaration.

Packaging
  • Packaging must be certified to UN standards
  • This involves testing the packaging to ensure its
    suitability for the carriage of certain dangerous
    goods.
  • Such packaging is marked in particular ways,
    prefixed with the UN logo and followed by codes
    found in the DG book which each station has
    on-site.
