Title: Outcome Sought 1
1Outcome Sought 1
- Work to reduce the number of violent crimes
occurring in and around hotspot areas
2 Ø The Pub/Club/Shop Watch scheme is running
successfully in Kemptown and helps LGBT patrons
feel safer on and between premises. Ø
There is high visible policing in the St Jamess
St area of Kemptown with a dedicated team of
uniform officers under Sgt Mark Andrews. Ø
I work closely with the THT outreach workers to
help deliver personal safety messages in high
risk public sex areas. Ø Count Me In Too
research will have questions around feelings of
safety and experiences of hate crime.
3Outcome Sought 2
- Develop and maintain trust and confidence with
the LGBT community
4Lisa Timerick remains the LGBT Police Liaison
Officer and acts as a gateway to the police and
continues to provide support and advocacy through
the criminal justice process. I work closely
with partners in the Crime and Disorder Reduction
Partnership to maintain LGBT community safety
issues on the agenda. Open LGBT safety meetings
are now happening hosted by Spectrum whos
co-coordinator, Arthur Law, I work closely with
including regular updates on various issues
relating to LGBT safety, cohesion and well being.
5Outcome Sought 3
- Ascertain the perceptions of hate crime and
agency response for the LGBT community
6There is now permanent LGBT representation on
City Councils Equalities Forum, Community Safety
Forum and Senior Officers Hate Crime Strategy
Group. I regularly input into, and receive
feedback from, regional, national and
international safety initiatives. Count Me In
too again will cover areas around experiences of
hate crime and domestic violence.
7Outcome Sought 4
- Providers and partner agencies to map and develop
their Equality Impact Assessments for their LGBT
input
8I have inputted into the Equality Impact
Assessments of both the Council and the Police I
liaised closely with the PCT around health issues
of the local LGBT community. I instigated a
corporate wide Equality Impact Assessment across
the City Council in regards of the impact for
service provision of the new Civil Partnership
Act. I sit on the Councils Equalities Froum
and also the corporate Equaliites Group in the
Council, ensuring that LGBT issues are high up on
the city councils agenda.
9Outcome Sought 5
- Development of perpetrator support with the YOT
and other partner agencies
10Although I have worked with officers from the
Youth Offending Team around individual cases the
perpetrator support scheme will be developed in
the second year of the strategy. Homophobic/Tra
nsphobic Bullying in schools is a priority for
the community and working closely with the
Children and Young Peoples Officer, the Schools
Anti-Bullying Co-coordinator and colleagues in
theChildrens, Families and Schools department we
will develop a specific programme of training to
deliver in the citys schools in the Autumn term.
11Outcome Sought 6
12I have produced a z card design information
leaflet entitled Our Lives Lived Openly which
was successfully launched at Pride. My prime
area of casework, is working with colleagues in
Housing and Housing Associations and Neighborhood
Wardens to combat the ongoing low-level
homophobic/transphobic abuse and harassment on
Housing Estates and in various neighborhoods in
the city. This is time intensive work and
accounts for around a third to a half of my
time. We are still working towards a Common
Reporting Form and hope to have one in use by the
next meeting.
13Outcome Sought 7
- Domestic violence within LGBT relationships and
families to be addressed
14There is a lot of work progressing in the LGBTDV
Working Group and efforts are being made to map
what service provision there is for LGBT victims
of domestic violence. I have worked with
Broken Rainbow, the national LGBTDV organization,
and have sought there advice in casework to
support victims as necessary. There is now a
legal right of access for LGBT victims to access
mainstream services and I hope to continue to
work with agencies in this area to see if we can
establish local, specialist services. I
instigated a workplace DV strategy/toolkit for
the city council as an employer which
specifically includes LGBT victims of Domestic
Violence.
15Outcome Sought 8
- The transgender community actively engaged in
addressing community safety issues
16I have visited the Trans drop-in hosted by The
Claire Project and discussed with members
Community Safety issues and distributed
literature. I have sat on the Trans
Development Working Group co-hosted by Spectrum
and Mind Out. I look forward to working with
members of the developmentGroup to help plan a
strategy to build the capacity and strength of
the Transgender community locally to empower them
to access trans friendly services as of right.
