Association between Meth Use and STIs

    among MSM (especially URA)
  • 2. MSM meth users (vs. non-users) are 2 times
    more likely to be HIV
  • 3. MSM Meth users (vs. non-users) had twice as
many partners in the prior 4 weeks
  • were 1.7 times more likely to have gonorrhea
  • were 1.9 times more likely to have chlamydia
  • were 4.9 times more likely to have syphilis

USE
  • The majority of respondents, 57 are gay men of
    whom
  • 24 percent have never used methamphetamine
  • 19 have tried it at least once
  • 24 percent use it 1-2 times per month
  • Only 8 self-report as daily users of which 9
percent identify as in need of help to stop using
  • 23 are heterosexually identified of which 76
have used, or report as currently using, meth.
  • These figures indicate that the majority of site
visitors are in a primary prevention or early
intervention category in which provision of
education and an opportunity to look at the
consequences of use may be effective as primary
    prevention or early intervention
