Title: Presentation Guidelines

1
Presentation Guidelines
  • Guidelines for the preparation of PowerPoint
Presentations for use in Altrincham Baptist Church

2
Purpose
  • These guidelines are a response to the Disability
Discrimination Act, adherence is not a matter of
personal preference, it is a matter of
    discrimination against those with visual
    disabilities

3
Remember
  • Power Corrupts -
  • PowerPoint Corrupts Absolutely

4
What PowerPoint isnt
  • PowerPoint is a tool to re-enforce the spoken
word, it is not a substitute for it.
  • Most attempts to use PowerPoint as the
communications medium will fail, no film maker
would ever rely solely on pictures and sub titles
to convey a message neither should we.
  • The only situation in which PowerPoint will work
in isolation is to scroll through very basic
messages such as notices or to flash up high
    impact fliers.

5
General Guidelines
  • The person preparing the presentation is
responsible for making it readable. The
characteristics of presentations in church must
be considered, readability on a desktop monitor
is not a guarantee that it will be readable on
    the projector screen.
  • Ensure that the purpose of the presentation is
clear, if it does not add something to the point
    it will take something away.
  • Do not break the guidelines on the pretext that
it doesnt matter if some people cant see it
if everyone doesnt need to see it, no one does!

6
Format 1
  • Font use either Arial or Comic Sans MS
  • The style of the letters makes reading easier,
for developing readers or those with reading
difficulties never use Times New Roman
  • Size For projection in Church use 40pt, in the
    Lower Lounge use 32pt
  • Any major deviation from this standard will
result in presentations that are unreadable for
    those with sight problems
  • Pictures Never put words over pictures
  • Do not over-stretch pictures
  • Full screen pictures should be at least 640x480
pixels other pictures should not be stretched by
more than a third of their original size if
its too small dont use it

7
Format 2
  • Contrast always use light text on a dark
    background
  • Dark text on a light background causes ghosting
making the text difficult to read
  • Use strong colours/contrast to ensure that the
    presentation is readable
  • The RNIB recommend the use of Yellow text on a
Dark Blue background as the most legible
combination of colours for visually impaired
    people
  • Lower Lounge
  • Only use the top half to two-thirds of the
screen, anything below this will be below the
sight line of most of the audience
