• To provide effective services to all children
  with a strong focus on early intervention and
  prevention
• This depends on improved information sharing at
  an early stage to prevent problems escalating

Dispel The Myths

• The law of confidence does NOT stop data sharing.
  Someone who says The Data Protection Act
  stops. is wrong.
• You can always share confidential information if
  the disclosure is necessary for the protection of
  the vulnerable each decision to share has to be
  usually taken on a case by case basis

Continued

• ALWAYS seek advice of the relevant health/care
  professionals when making a difficult decision to
  share information. Dont be afraid of seeking a
  second opinion
• Keep records of what you are sharing and why (or
  why not)

What stops information sharing

• If I get it wrong Ill be blamed, disciplined
  or even sued, uncertainties about how you tell
  a parent that you are concerned about their
  child
• Worries that you may harm your relationship with
  your patient or client if you voice your
  concerns

Confidentiality

• Practitioners are anxious about information
  sharing because they are uncertain about, and
  lack clarity over, what information they can
  share safely and who could give consent.

  privacy, confidentiality, subject access
  requests, and the sharing of personal
  identifiable information
