In Unmyelinated Neuron

• The velocity of an action potential increases as
  the Diameter of the axon is increased

In Myelinated Neuron

• In myelinated neuron as myelination (wraps of
  myelin) of the axon is increased, the velocity of
  action potential gradually increases.
• Not an exponential increase as seen when the
  diameter was increased. More than 1000 myelin
  wraps are required in order to reach same
  velocity when diameter was 700 um

Effects of change Na density on Myelinated Axon

• Wraps of Myelin were kept at default setting 150
• The Na density was changed in the Myelinated
  region parameters

• The velocity of the action potential increases
  drastically as the density of Na channels is
  increased.
• The velocity is much higher as compared to simply
  increasing the wraps of myelin or even increasing
  diameter of the axon.
