Title: Final Quality Control Check Production Style

1
Final Quality Control Check - Production Style !
You are required to work as a group for this
exercise. You will need to decide on the jobs to
be completed and then agree who will do each job.
You may need to nominate a Production Manager to
oversee the activity. Now read the following
Quality information. To be of quality, your
product must meet your specification and the
expectations of a customer. The product must do
what it is supposed to do. If you were to buy
the productin a shop, what would you expect it to
be like in terms of the quality of production and
the fitness for purpose?
ACTIVITY 1 As a group, brainstorm the above
question on a piece of paper.
Quality Control
Quality Control is a way of checking the quality
of a product during, or at the end of the
production process. No-one expects perfection,
but defects cost money, time and the reputation
of the company if they are allowed out of the
factory and into a shop.
ACTIVITY 2 Individually, list as many checks
that you could carry out on your product to make
sure that it is of acceptable quality. Eg what
should the measurements be? TIP USE YOUR
PRODUCT TO HELP YOU AND ONLY SPEND 3 MINUTES ON
THIS ACTIVITY. NOW COMPARE YOUR LIST WITH THE
GROUP TO SEE IF YOU ALL AGREE.
2
ACTIVITY 3 Use the Evaluation sheet taken from a
card project to guide your group to design a
check sheet that you can use for your hats. The
answers from the previous activities will be your
checks. Your check sheet will be used by the
class as a final Quality Control Check of the
groups hats. You may use the computer to
produce your check sheet.
Production Systems
Production Systems are different methods of
production which can be used to manufacture
designs. The three types of production systems
are JOB, BATCH AND FLOW. Your hats are an example
of JOB production, where one person makes the hat
from start to finish. The work is normally of a
high standard and labour intensive. An example of
BATCH production would be if, as a group, you all
make beanie hats one week, and then change to
making jester hats the next week. Batch
production is good for products which may change
regularly. An example of FLOW production would be
if each of you completed one stage of each hat,
for example, sewing the front two pieces
together. This is suitable for large quantities
of the same product because raw materials can be
bought in large quantities and semi/unskilled
labour can be used.
ACTIVITY 4 Use the flow production method to
check the finished hats using the check sheet
that you produced in Activity 3. Allocate checks
to each member. For example, one member may be
responsible for checking that the seam allowance
is correct for each hat, before passing it on to
the next stage of checking.

Final Quality Control Check
To be of quality, your hat must meet your
specification and the expectations of a customer.
The hat must do what it is supposed to do. If
you were to buy a hat in a shop, what would you
expect it to be like in terms of the quality of
production and the fitness for purpose?
Quality Control
Quality Control is a way of checking the quality
of a product during, or at the end of the
production process. No-one expects perfection,
but defects cost money, time and the reputation
of the company if they are allowed out of the
factory and into a shop. Manufacturers often have
inspectors at important stages of production.
The also have a final inspection stage, where
finished product is checked against set
standards. If the product fails, it must either
be rejected or reworked (the fault must be
rectified).
ACTIVITY Use the A6 check list to thoroughly
inspect your finished hat. For each check, you
must be able a tick that it is of acceptable
quality. If you are unable to tick the check,
you must rectify the fault or record why you are
unable to (eg a hat that was too small would be
rejected, while you could repair a hole in a
seam). WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR FINAL
CHECK, PIN YOUR COMPLETED CHECK LIST TO YOUR HAT.
REMEMBER TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME.
