  • What the test showed at 8th grade.
  • 3 lowest areas on reading test Comprehension of
    Informational Sources, Inferencing, and
    Vocabulary
  • 3 lowest areas on math test Geometric
    Relationships, Geometric Concepts, and Algebraic
    Patterns/Variables
  • Writing--good conventions, overall need for work
    on structure (focus, support, organization,
    integration)
  • Where do we go from here?
  • Introduce more non-fiction (new adoption of
    novels)
  • Use our Media Center to teach more resource
    skills
  • Enhance our Study Skills program to address more
    reading strategies
  • Reading across all curricular areas needs to be
    developed!
  • A reading specialist needs to be hired to work
with our 25-30 population of needy readers.
  • There is a need for an aggressive writing
    program to be adopted district-wide.
  • Block schedule Math------Middle School Concept
    needs to be researched.

What the test showed at 7th grade.
  • Peotone scored lowest in physical science and
    earth science
  • Peotone scored lowest in US History, economics,
    and geography

Where do we go from here?
  • We need to reorganize our science scope and
sequence across the district. A system of checks
and balances need to be put into place to assure
all grade levels are teaching science a required
    number of minutes per week.
  • We need to look at our current SS program and
determine where the series is failing. SS is up
for rotation this year if funds are available.
  • We need to address US History topics within
    Reading and Science.

7th Grade National Quarter Comparisons (how
students scored relative to national norms)
Science 77 of our students would score in
Quarter 3 or Quarter 4 (51-100) Social
Studies 80 of our students would score in
Quarter 3 or Quarter 4 (51-100)
We have seem some ups and downs in these two
areas. We need to determine what the
inconsistencies are in the program.

  • What the test showed at 5th grade.
  • 2 lowest areas on reading test Comprehension of
    Informational Sources, Explicit Ideas and
    Strategies
  • 4 lowest areas on math test Measurement,
    Algebraic Relationships, Data Organization, and
    Computation
  • Writing--good conventions, overall need for work
    on structure (focus, support, organization,
    integration)
  • Where do we go from here?
  • Introduce more non-fiction (novel adoption)
  • Use our Media Center to teach more resource
    skills.
  • There is a need for an aggressive writing
    program to be adopted district-wide
  • Develop and consistently use the Harcourt
    program for reading. Inconsistencies will
culminate at 5th grade since they are in a grade
    center.
  • Hire additional reading specialists to work with
all levels of readers to develop more strategic
    readers.
  • Train our staff in reading strategies.
  • Revisit the math scope and sequence. Find the
    inconsistencies in the program.
  • Write about Math!!!

We need to address the teaching of science at all
grade levels for a consistent amount of time.

California Achievement Test
CAT-5
Cat-5 is administered to all Peotone students in
grades 1-8.
This year we administered the CAT test in
September. We usually administer this test in the
Spring.
48
The data used is the National Percentile of the
Mean Normal Curve Equivalent (NP of Mean NCE).
Mean Normal Curve Equivalent is simply the
average score of all students at that grade
level. This is a formula for reporting group
data. What this indicates is Approx. 1-22 NP
is considered Below Average Approx. 23-78 NP is
considered Average Approx. 79-99 NP is considered
Above Average Example If a grade level is
placed at the 65th NP for Reading it indicates
that our Reading achievement is better than that
of 65 of students nationwide.
