Title: Teacher Suggestion:
1Teacher Suggestion
- Have the students take notes over the power point
using the combination notes format. See the
combination notes document in Unit 1 activities
on COL for an example. - Have them number their slides in their notes.
(this is useful for identifying where they found
the correct answer when doing test corrections) - After taking notes they should complete their
visual representation of the words and phrases in
their notes on the right side of the paper and a
summary at the bottom. Suggested visual
representation for this presentation - Double Bubble map Sexual and Asexual
Reproduction
2REPRODUCTION
3 Reproduction is the production or the
creation of offspring of the same species as the
parent.
4 There are two types of reproduction
5Sexual
reproduction requires the combining of two
parent cells. Male cell Female cell
Offspring
6Asexual reproduction creates the new organism
without combining cells. (1 parent)
7Mushrooms reproduce by making spores that are
carried by the wind. Each little black speck
(spore) carries the beginnings of a new mushroom.
Mold also reproduces using spores.
8Hydras reproduce by growing a new hydra on the
side of the parent. This is called budding. The
offspring will be a different size than the
parent.
3 buds that will break off and form new Hydras
9Starfish can make a new starfish from one broken
arm with a piece of the center attached. This is
called regeneration. The offspring will be the
same size as the parent.
10Vegetative Propagation makes a new organism from
a part of an old organism.
11 Binary Fission is reproduction by
splitting. Bacteria and Paramecium can split
themselves in half and make a new paramecium.
12THEY ARE ASEXUAL!
- Spores
- Vegetative Propagation
- Budding
- Regeneration
- Binary Fission
- Offspring from asexual reproduction are always
EXACT copies of their parents!! - This means that all of the offspring is UNIFORM
there is NO VARIATION.
