15Setting the scene
Contact ? How do we keep in touch? A counsellor
could phone you, text, or maybe drop a note?
Where? Addiction Services are based in Napier and
Hastings but we also see people in their homes
and communities. What would work for you for your
first appointment?
- Who?
- In our service we see whanau and friends as
having an important role and often making a big
difference to what happens for young people. Who
would you like to bring to your appointment? Who
could maybe help out?
16Using the Kete....
What strength and resources do we
contribute? Where exactly does this information
go?
17The Whanau Plan
- Whanau strengths and agreed goals
- Whanau actions/activities that will set up for
success and prevent triggers for AOD use - Responses to AOD use as it happens
- Acknowledgment and rewards when the young person
maintains their goals and to encourage them
further
- Applying natural consequences of use and
maintaining agreed limits for behaviour
18Comments from practitioners.
I cant help but add this to my other work
- The whanau gained a sense of ownership of the
therapy and a sense that they can get through
this
- The home visit made a big difference in engaging
the family
- The family are very motivated to be agents of
change
