1975-1985

• In 10 years (Cantoni Plant, Molini Marzoli and
  Bustese Plant) the main historical firms stop
  their activity
• The abandoned firms begin a long period of
  declay
• The Cantoni Plant becomes the home of hundreds
  and hundreds of immigrants. The living conditions
  are precarious and unhealthy
• A Macedonian family died during a fireIN 1989

From a Cotton Mill to a University

• Cantoni Cotton Mill has been beautifully restored
  by the famous Italian architect, Aldo Rossi.
• The University has been founded on the initiative
  of the Industrial association of Varese province
  (UNIVA)
• 3 Faculties Economics, Law, Engineering
• Courses are offered in English and are open to
  both Italian and International students

THE MOLINI MARZOLI

• Built between 1906 and 1926
• Its activity closed down in 1975
• The majority of the metallic structures are in
  Art Nouveau, made by Alessandro Mazzuccottelli.
• Nowadays the building is called Tecnocity

• The Textile Centre of Cotton
• The University of Insubria
• The Regional Centre of Documentation and
  Coordination of the Language, the Dialect and the
  History of Lombardy

  large Gothic windows

  different processes of cotton production
