AutoCorrect
  • Corrects errors as you enter text
  • Corrects common capitalization, typing, spelling,
    and grammatical errors
  • Useful for inserting text quickly
  • For example, you can specify that when you key
    the letters nyc, they will always be replaced
    with New York City
  • See figure 3-1 on page 42

AutoCorrect
  • If you hover the mouse pointer over text that has
    been automatically corrected, a small blue box
    will appear called the AutoCorrect Options button
  • If you point to the button it will change to an
    icon with a down arrow next to it
  • Clicking the down arrow will display options for
    changing the AutoCorrect action.
  • For example, you can change New York City back to
    nyc or even tell work to step automatically
    correcting nyc

AutoFormat As you Type
  • Applies built-in formats as you key
  • For example If you type the number 1, a period,
    press Tab, and then key text, Word automatically
    formats the text for a numbered list
  • Word also changed fractions and numbers as you
    key, such as 3/4 to ¾ and 31st to 31st
  • To choose which automatic formatting options you
    want, open the Tools menu and choose AutoCorrect
    and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab
    (figure 3-4 on page 44)

    submenu with the choices you can insert in your

  • To ignore the suggested word, just keep keying

Automatic Spell Checking
  • Identifies misspellings and words that are not in
    Words dictionary by underlining them with a wavy
    red line
  • To correct a word that is underlined, position
    the pointer on the word and right click
  • A shortcut menu appears with a list of correctly
    spelled words

  • Click with the left mouse button on the
    suggestion that you want and it replaces the
    misspelled word
  • The automatic spell check can be turned on and
    off to adjested by accessing the Spelling
    Grammar tab of the Options dialog box (figure 3-8
