1
Litchfield Workforce Center Demand Driven
Presentation
2
How will we change as we shift to a demand
driven system
3
How will we change
  • Create more of a universal service and dissolve
    the focus on individual programs.
  • EXAMPLE If we create a relationship with the
employers the employer can contact an ES to
inform them of openings and not have to go
through other avenues. Dissolve the current
structure that ES are unable to talk to employers
and the stigma that only BSS/BRR are allowed to
    have that contact.

4
How will we change
  • Change Nicholes position from Receptionist to
    Career Facilitator.
  • She would focus more on the individual that walks
through the door and assist the individual to
find their skills and direct them to the Hot
    Jobs.
  • Steps to take to get her to the point
  • Attend Creative Job Search
  • Attend the GCDF training

5
How will we change
  • Things she will do once in that position
  • Give customers assessments when they come in to
determine how to better serve them
  • EXAMPLE Such as giving them a survey they can
complete Education / job history / etc.
  • Provide LMI information (contact Cameron)
  • Update Hot Jobs board/computer/handouts
  • Use Publisher and create newsletter

6
Outcomes
  • Create More of a Universal Service and dissolve
    the focus on individual programs
  • Outcome This is something that will be
addressed and looked at closer by
managers/BRR/BSS. Need to establish who contacts
employers and communication needs to improve.
  • Change Nicholes Position from Receptionist to
    Career Facilitator.
  • Outcome In the slides it did not touch on
additional tasks that could be done by a Career
Facilitator. Items that where listed in the
PowerPoint Nichole can already do and will just
need direction on how to provide these services.
A plan can be put in place to accomplish this.
If the Career Facilitator idea is still of
interest staff would need to list task that are
specific and show how the customers would receive
different services or how our services could be
    more streamline.

7
Identify Resources/Information (what services we
add or do differently)
WHAT
  • Weekly short staff meetings (sharing of
information) This is scheduled now for every
    Thursday.

8
The Litchfield staff will plan to meet every
Thursday at 400 PM to discuss office
happenings/job opportunities/ customer needs/
program updates.
WHY
  • Increase communication of local employment issues.

How
9
Assess after three months to determine the
usefulness. The meeting purpose would promote
communication/awareness of local information and
program information. As well as eliminate
problems before they become an issue.
MEASURE
10
Outcomes
  • Weekly Short Staff Meetings.
  • Outcome This is something that the office felt
could be adapted immediately and currently takes
place every Thursday and has proven to be of use
    to all staff.

11
  • WHAT
  • Adopt a Business of the month/Business Tours/
Focus on employment at the specified employer by
    using a board.

12
WHY
  • To improve communication with the business and
bring the business to the job seekers.

13
HOW
  • hiring we could use this opportunity to get
the info. out about our programs.
  • Melissa Nichole will work on the job board.
  • If employers are working with the Litchfield
office, staff would drop off applications
    directly to the employer.
  • Invite the employer of the Hot Job to use the
WFC for interviews and to assist with the
    interview process.
  • Focus on a Business
  • Determine what jobs they have
  • List those jobs on a board
  • Set up a business tour
  • Melissa would set up the Business Tours
  • Melissa will attend the tours and other ES can
attend if they are able (this would give staff
the opportunity to discover what the business
looks like etc in order to provide info. To the
    customers
  • Even if employers are not

14
MEASURE
Number of Attendees Employers participating
15
Outcomes
  • Adopt a Business of the Month/Business
Tours/Focus on employment at the specified
    employer by using a board.
  • Outcome This is already in place and was at
the time of the presentation. Melissa is in
charge of working with the local business to set
up the tours. Melissa communicates this
information with Nichole, who is in charge of
updating the board. Nichole places employment
information along with job leads for that
employer and a sign notifying the public of the
upcoming tour. A sign-up sheet is at the front
    desk for interested customers.

16
  • WHAT
  • Create an AD for the local papers

17
  • WHY
  • To help the public become aware of specific
    services.
  • HOW
  • Seek out funding to place the ads
  • Develop the ad (could use a clause that if they
bring in the ad or mention it they would receive
a free gift like a pen, pencil, mug, t-shirt,
    calendar, mouse pad )

18
MEASURE
Increase the number of customers using the
Workforce Center and its services.
19
Outcomes
  • Create an Ad for the Local Papers.
  • Outcome We have received permission to do this.
The staff will work together to create an ad for
upcoming job clubs/business tours. Once the
information is gathered they will submit this to
Cathy B for proofing. Cathy will then proof and
get the information into the local papers.

20
What
Set up a kiosk in the Litchfield office work
with employers to set up their applications on
this kiosk.
21
W H Y
  • Better customer service
  • One stop shopping
  • Many applications in one spot

22
  • HOW
  • We would need a Kiosk system/scanner/printer etc.
  • Work with local employers to get their
application on the Kiosk. Have an option that
once an application is completed the customer can
click on and send the application will be sent
via internet to that employer. If the employer
does not have internet access the customer would
be able to click print and give it to the
    receptionist.
  • Get staff trained

23
  • Employers requesting for their applications to be
    on the system
  • Large volume of customers using the Kiosk

Measure
