NJ Dept. of Labor Workforce Development (DOLWD)
Reentry Services
  • One-Stop Career Centers provide a variety of
    services, including job search training,
counseling, career exploration, OJT, job referral
and placement, etc. Some of these services may
begin prior to release from custody, as part of
    the Transitional process.
  • LWD has contracted to provide Literacy training
    through correctional facilities and half-way
houses, in preparation for the transition back to
    communities.
  • Training educational services offered by local
    Workforce Investment Act (WIA) agencies,
    literacy programs and vocational training
opportunities through the local higher education
    system are available.
  • At Pre-Release, LWD will participate with Dept.
of Corrections in case conferencing, to develop a
long-term employability plan designed to achieve
step by step successes leading to
    self-sufficiency.
  • The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
Services (DVRS) has partnered to serve those
offenders who may have established disabilities.

DOLWD Reentry Services
  • Existing resources will be utilized, i.e., the
Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program
offering financial incentives to employers who
hire ex-offenders on-the-job training (OJT) to
    create employment opportunity and apprenticeship
    programs to develop work skills.
  • Federal bonding program enables ex-offenders to
be bonded at no cost to their employer.
  • Those parents of children who are eligible for or
receiving public assistance may also be eligible
for employment and training services funded
    through the Benchcard Work Requirements
    initiative for non-custodial parents (NCP).
  • The Responsible Parenting Program (RPP), a pilot
initiative with Parents Anonymous, offers LWD
One-Stop services to those in half-way houses.

DOLWD Reentry Services
  • Through MOU partnership with the NJ State Parole
Board (SPB), parolees can be referred and tracked
in Americas One-Stop Operating System (AOSOS)
for participation in employment and training
    related activities.
  • Through LWD Division of Business Services staff,
a more focused effort is being made to reach out
    to employers
  • and to encourage more and better job
    opportunities for ex-offenders.
