Does this apply to me and my department?

• Required of all individuals who are either paid
  from any sponsored projects (whether or not
  sponsored with federal funds) or who commit time
  as cost sharing to such sponsored projects
• Paid from or cost shared to R funds
• All graduate students paid as RAs or TAs
• RA Research Assistant (60850)
• TA Teaching Assistant (60860)

Why is this important to me?

• Rice must comply with federal guidelines
• Compliance protects Rices reputation, status,
  and future sponsored funding
• Policy supports
• Rices mission
• V2C goals

What does the policy clarify?

• Defines of effort
• Describes Roles and Responsibilities
• Establishes a timeline for distribution
• Provides deadlines
• Principal Investigators / departments
• Research and Cost Accounting
• Defines consequences for failure to comply

How do the procedures relate to the policy?

• Provides instructions to PIs and departments
• Refers to the cost transfer policy
• Provides resources for correcting payroll
  distributions

Upcoming Timeline

• Effort Reports
• Will be printed on 16 February 2009
• Distributed to departmental administrators during
  16-20 February
• Due back to RCA on or before 31 March 2009
• Must be date stamped by RCA by deadline
• Must provide all necessary documentation

Upcoming Timeline

• Effort Reports
• Make corrections at time of certification
• All redistributions will be tracked by RCA
• Before or by 28 April 2009
• RCA will notify PIs, depts, chairs, and deans of
  overdue reports
• On 13 May 2009
• Outstanding reports will be declared delinquent
