GE Fund Study
  • Undergrad Level Impacts Leveling Off Minority
    Engineering Programs Established in 1970s,
impact tapered off after first 10-15 yrs.
  • Scores of Discrete Programs largely target
small groups of students, remain outside academic
system, dependent on , no linkages
  • Math Skills Poor math preparation biggest
    barrier for under-represented minority students

11
GE Fund Study
  • Interest/Exposure/Relevance Female students
    have skills, but not interest
  • Algebra by Eighth Grade Major overall impact on
    college-going and success

12
Urgent Need to
  • Start Earlier, Build a Continuum of Support
    Academics
  • Increase Rigor of Math Preparation
  • Increase Exposure to/ Interest in Quantitative
    Careers
  • Build into Schools, Universities (vs. Add-Ons)
