How do we know if something is living?

• Living things eat. They need to eat to have
  energy, to grow, and to stay healthy.
• Living things grow. As they grow they become
  larger and more complicated.
• Living things reproduce. Humans make babies, cats
  produce kittens, and birds lay eggs. Plants also
  reproduce by making seeds which germinate and
  grow into new plants.
