3The Cooperative Work Experience Education Program
(CWEE) is a planned program of academic
instruction to correlate on-the-job training with
transfer or occupational curricula with volunteer
or paid work experience.
Career Success Seminar
Career Awareness Seminar
Occupational Work Experience is provided for
students who are paid employees or non-paid
volunteers in positions that either develop or
add to marketable skills directly related to the
student's major program of study. This course is
also designed for students who are cross training
at their current worksite, for upward mobility,
or possible career changes as well as those
looking for entry-level occupational training
through work based learning experiences.
General Work Experience is provided for students
who are paid employees or non-paid volunteers in
positions which develop desirable work habits,
attitudes and career awareness or assists them in
learning about the world of work, but are not
related to their major program of study or have
no declared major.

Colleges Chancellors Office. The benefits
include the following

Experience. Students have higher annual
earnings than students without work-based
learning experience.

Summary of Results of the Report Cooperative
Work Experience referred to as Coop
Coop graduates are 22 more likely to maintain
stable earnings over three years compared to
non-Coop/non-Occupational graduates, and 6 more
likely to maintain stable earnings when compared
to Occupational graduates.
Coop graduates demonstrate consistently higher
earnings compared to other graduates

Summary of Results of the Report Cooperative
Work Experience referred to as Coop
Coop graduates earn 50-71 more annually than
non-Coop/ non-Occupational graduates
Coop participants exit community colleges with a
strong 15-22 lead in workforce participation
compared to other graduates. By the second year
after graduation this gap decreases to a 5 lead,
and by year three there remains a 3 difference
in the employment rate of Coop graduates
compared to that of other community college
graduates.

CWEE Program
- Criminal Justice and Instructional Aides are
largest segment of CWEE students who also
complete 4 credits of occupational units - Excellent community support
- Majority of students have jobs, use CWEE for
professional development - Majority of our students who volunteer are hired
within 6 months of completion of work experience
19For comparison and demonstration of the
value-added (money-saving) effect work experience
has on apportionment, the following information
was provided by the Registrar.

- Work with Palo Verde Colleges Outreach Task
Force to develop new ways of marketing the CWEE
Program. - Develop CWEE materials to be placed on our
college Web Site. - Add CWEE to each major course section of the
catalog and class schedule to increase visibility
and awareness of the Program. - The addition of CWEE as an approved elective, if
not a requirement, will be discussed with each
Division. - New and creative ways will be developed to
present the merits of CWEE each semester.

- Discuss the merits of CWEE with EOPS and Student
Services for requiring or at least recommending
PVC student employees to enroll in work
experience.
- Advertisements will be placed on the Cable
Channel before each semester.
- Presentations will be given to various groups
including the students.
- An animated ad will be placed on the Reader
Screen Board in the Administration Building.
- CWEE classes will be offered at the Needles
campus next semester.

- Update the PVC catalog description with new
statistics from the Chancellors Web site. - Update the CWEE information in the PVC Student
Handbook with new information and statistics from
the Chancellors Web site. - Develop a survey to give to students during the
first three weeks of the semester to find out how
they learned of the CWEE Program. This will
identify successful marketing strategies
initiated. - Develop a survey to be given to students during
the last two weeks of the semester to access
student satisfaction of the CWEE Program. - Presentations will be developed and presented to
PVC faculty courses, the local Prison staff, and
the Palo Verde Unified School District staff.
