announcement - No cost to the host school surrounding HBCU/MIs
invited to maximize participation and benefits - Workshop schedule
- Fall schedule September-November
- Spring schedule February-April

9Summer Internship Program
- Purpose to increase the number of undergraduate
students participating in research opportunities - Length seven weeks
- Location Laboratory, HBCU/MI
- Value not to exceed 10,000 per student for room
and board, transportation, stipend, equipment
etc.. - Number of Internships 9 beginning in Summer
2005 - Selection Criteria
- rising junior or senior competitively selected
- Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics
Majors - 3.2 or above GPA
10New Faculty Support Award
- Purpose to provide faculty development funds to
non-tenured faculty to participate in STEM
research opportunities - Length Not exceed 1 year
- Location Laboratory, HBCU/MI
- Value not to exceed 10,000 per faculty member
for equipment purchase, travel, publication
support, seed money for new research projects and
support for dissertation completion - Number of Awards 9 beginning in 2005
- Eligibility Requirements
- Full-time faculty appointment at an HBCU/MI
- Faculty member teaching in a STEM discipline
- Non-tenured status with less than 5 years
teaching/research experience

- Purpose to increase research participation in
research projects by HBCU/MIs - Current recipient North Carolina AT State
University - Project conduct research in composite materials
and mechanical science addressing the need for - Affordable blast protection system for
blast/shock mitigation - Nano-composites to make future combat systems
lighter, survivable and durable - Length 3 year research effort
