• Summary of Events

Ahaziah (Son of Ahab Jezebel) Reigned 2-years
(853-852 B.C.) ninth king of northern kingdom
of Israel (if we number Tibni). His character
was like that of his mother and father (1 Ki
2252-53). He was seriously injured after a fall
(2 Ki 12). He inquired of Baal-Zebub, the god
of Ekron, instead of Jehovah, as to whether he
would recover (2 Ki 12). Elijah told Ahaziahs
messengers that the king would NOT recover from
his injuries he will surely die (2 Ki
13-4). Ahaziah, by the description, knew it was
Elijah and he sent 50 men to bring him in (but
they were consumed by fire from heaven) as were
the next fifty (2 Ki 15-12). Elijah went the
third time and told Ahaziah he would die (2 Ki
113-17). He was succeeded by his brother Joram.

• Summary of Events

Joram (Son of Ahab Jezebel) Reigned 12-years
(852-841 B.C.) tenth king of northern kingdom
of Israel. His character was somewhat better
than his father and mother (2 Ki 32-3). Joram
allied with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and the
king of Edom in an expedition against the
Moabites who had rebelled against Israel after
the death of Ahab ( 2 Ki 37-9). Elisha
prophesied of a victory. They dug trenches and
water flowed into them. The Moabites mistakenly
thought the water was blood, concluding the
armies were slaughtered ( 2 Ki 310-27). Joram
was slain by Jehu (God had prophesied this in 1
Ki 1916 Jehu was anointed by Elisha in 2 Ki
91-13) along with all the descendants of Ahab
(2 Ki 914-26).

About the time of Ahaziahs death. Elijah passed
his mantle (symbol of responsibility) to
Elisha. Elijah ascended into heaven (one of only
two men Enoch, Gen 524). The sons of the
prophets searched for him in vain (2 Ki
215-17).
