Israel - Like Ahab, Joram worked evil in the sight of the
Lord (2 Kings. 32) - Like Ahab, Joram cleaved to the sins of
Jereboam (2 Kings. 33) - However, Jorams sins were not like his
fathers for he put away the image of Baal
(personally, see 2 Kgs. 1018-28)
3Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
- Joram became confederate with Jehoshaphat (king
of Judah) and Edom in order to defeat Moab (2
Kgs. 37-ff) - Joram later entered a confederacy with
Jehoshaphats son, Ahaziah, in battle against
Hazael, of Syria (2 Kgs. 828) - Joram was wounded and fled to Jezreel. Ahaziah
visited him there. v.29

- Jehus Commission Smite the house of Ahab thy
master (97) - To avenge the blood of Gods prophets and
servants - This was the sin that led to Jerusalems first
destruction (2 Chron. 3616), and it was the sin
that led to their last destruction (Matt.
2337-38 Acts 752)
7Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
- Jehus Commission Smite Jezebel (97)
- But there was none like unto Ahab, which did
sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of
the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up (1
Kgs. 2125, - ex. Naboths Vineyard) - Dogs would eat her in Jezreel (1 Kgs. 2123 2
Kgs. 935-36)
8Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
- Jehu Was The Right Man For The Job!
- Compare Elijah Obadiah (1 Kings 18)
- Jehu not affected by political alliances!
- Ahab Ben-hadad (1 Kgs. 2034,42)
- Ahab Jehoshaphat (1 Kings 22)
- Joram, Jehoshaphat, king of Edom (against Moab,
2 Kings. 3) - Joram Ahaziah (2 Kings. 829)
9Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
- Jehu was not a people pleaser
- Unlike those who had preceded him, Jehu would not
sell out to political pressures and influences - Modern elders, preachers, deacons and saints
would do well to follow Jehus undivided
dedication and commitment - James 44 Galatians 110
10Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
- Jehu had a zeal for the Lord
- He told Jehonadab, Come with me, and see my zeal

12Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- Jehu Goes To Jezreel Met by Scouts
- First Scout Is it peace?Jehu What hast thou
to do with peace? Turn thee behind me. - Second Scout Is it peace?Jehu What hast
thou to do with peace? Turn thee behind me.
13Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- Jehu Is Met by Joram and Ahaziah
- Joram Is it peace, Jehu?Jehu What peace, so
long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and
her witchcrafts are so many? (2 Kings 922).
14Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said
to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah. And
Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote
Joram between his arms, and his arrow went out at
his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot (2
Kings 923-24)
15Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
- Jehu ordered his men to chase down Ahaziah and
kill him (2 Kings 927) - Jezebel spoke to Jehu from a window. Jehu told
her servants to throw her to the ground. Dogs
ate her corpse (2 Kings 930-37) - Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel (2 Kings
1028)
16Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- To Joram, peace meant tolerance
- Today, people expect tolerance in the areas of
doctrinal and moral differences - They demand unity-in-diversity
- Like Elijah (1 Kings 1817-18), Jehu would be the
one labeled as a trouble-maker if he expressed
opposition
17Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and
they abhor him that speaketh uprightly (Amos
510) - Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell
you the truth? (Galatians 416)
18Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- Jesus gave peace, but not as the world giveth
(Jn. 1427) - Think not that I am come to send peace on earth
I came not to send peace, but a sword (Matt.
1034) - PEACE CANNOT BE HAD AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TRUTH!
19DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- What peace, so long as some brethren are teaching
that the creation days of Genesis 1 are not
literal, consecutive, 24-hour days? - (Concerning the days of Creation)The days
cannot be literal - The days must be ages(Shane Scott, Sentry Mag.
03/95)
20DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- Some Bible believers insist that the world,
according to Genesis 1, was created in six
twenty-four hour days. I believe, however, that
the days of Genesis 1 should not be interpreted
literally. (Shane Scott, Sentry, 03/95)
21DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- In his article entitled, "A Response to the Open
Letter," Shane Scott gave the wording of the exam
question that he used on Genesis 1. He told
students to - Choose one of the four interpretations of
Genesis 1 and defend it.
22DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
God Picks
Creation Was Instantaneous The Days Were Literal,
24-Hour Days The Days Were Consecutive Days
- Psalm 336-9
- Exodus 209-11
- Exodus 3115-17
- Mark 106
- Isaiah 4518
23DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- What peace, so long as some brethren are teaching
that the serpent language of Genesis 3 uses the
serpent motif as a mere literary device
employing accommodative and symbolic language
that borrows from contemporary mythology?
24Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
Marty Pickup FC Lectures, 2003
It is also worth considering that the account of
these events may be, to some degree,
accommodative and symbolic. Genesis may use the
serpent motif because it is borrowing imagery
from the mythological culture of that day
regarding a cosmological foe of Deity. (Florida
College Lectures, 2003, p. 61)
25Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
Marty Pickup FC Lectures, 2003
It is possible, therefore, that Genesis
recounted man's primeval fall using the language
and symbology that was best suited for its
original audience. Since ancient creation myths
gave a serpentine form to the being who opposed
the order of creation, it was fitting that the
tempter in the garden be depicted in this way
(Boyd 156). Such a literary device may have been
quite obvious to the original audience of
Genesis. (Florida College Lectures, 2003, p. 61)
26Is It Peace, Jehu? 2 Kings 922
Marty Pickup FC Lectures, 2003
"Many scholars suggest that this kind of
reshaping of pagan themes into a presentation of
monotheistic truth is, to some degree, what
Genesis is doing in its creation account (Boyd
84-85)." (Florida College Lectures, 2003) Note
the connection between the non-literal serpent
and non-literal day theories
27DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- What peace, so long as some brethren are teaching
that Hell is not eternal, and that the soul of
the wicked is annihilated after death? - Matthew 2546
- Revelation 1411 2011
- 2 Thessalonians 17-9
28DO YOU COME IN PEACE?
- What peace, so long as some brethren are teaching
that the dictums, decrees and laws of civil
judges, courts and legislatures supersede
divine laws and liberties? - Acts 529 Acts 419-20
- Daniel 1, 3, 6
