Bay of Pigs

• JFK was a Cold Warrior.
• Worried about Communism in Cuba.
• Fidel Castro had ousted the previous dictator
  made land/business reforms that helped the poor
  and hurt wealthy U.S. business owners.
• JFK planned an attack on Cuba (Bay of Pigs
  invasion), but it failed.
• It embarrassed the U.S.

Cuban Missile Crisis

• Alliance between Cuba and Soviet Union worried
  the U.S. govt.
• Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union began
