2January 15, 1929 Michael King is born. Later he
will become known as Martin Luther King Jr.
Grows up in Atlanta His father is a preacher in
local Baptist Church.
King Jr. is expelled from school in the 1st grade
after it is revealed that he is 5 years old
Martin Luther King Jr. (age 6)
31946 the Atlanta Constitution publishes Kings
letter to the editor stating that black people
are entitled to the basic rights and
opportunities of American citizens.
June 8, 1948. King graduates with a bachelor
degree in Sociology.
1948 King is appointed assistant pastor at his
dads church. King enrolls at Crozer Theological
Seminary.
41955 Marks the beginning of the Civil Rights
movement and the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
1955 Rosa Parks arrested for refusing to vacate
her seat and move to the rear of the bus for a
white passenger.

6January 30, 1956 at 915, Kings home is bombed
while he was giving a speech. His wife and child
were not injured. Later that night he pleads
with an angry crowd for NON-VIOLENCE.
September 20th 1958, King is attacked by Izola
Curry who stabbed King with a seven inch letter
opener at a book signing. King was rushed to a
hospital where he recovered.
"First let me say that I feel no ill-will toward
Mrs. Izola Curry and know that thoughtful people
will do all in their power to see that she gets
the help she apparently needs if she is to become
a free and constructive member of society.
7The 60's
May 21, 1961 Freedom Bus is set on fire after
protesters try and protest the segregation of bus
terminals.
Martin Luther King Jr. addresses a mass rally
shortly after bus burning at a Montgomery church.
8August 28, 1963 March on Washington. The
location of the famous I have a dream speech.
May 7, 1963 High pressure hoses on students.
March 7,1965 Bloody Sunday, marchers attacked
on the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
1960 Sit-in at Woolworth's in Greensborough NC
9April 9 1968 Martin Luther Kings Funeral
April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King killed in
Memphis Tenn.
