Title: OSCAM v8.0 Introduction

1
  • OSCAM v8.0 Introduction
  • 2008 Ship User Conference
  • 7 May 2008

2
V8.0 Objectives
  • Re-evaluate the model relationships to ensure
    current business practices are correctly
    reflected and defined
  • Take advantage of technology advances to make the
software easier to use with a smaller footprint
  • Incorporate user feedback to make model closely
    meet the needs of users
  • Automate analysis previously done offline
  • Make the model more powerful/flexible and appeal
to a broader user base. (OPNAV, NAVSEA HQ)

3
V8.0 Progress
  • Work on v8.0 began in 2007 with 2 design
    workshops
  • V8.0 Beta was delivered to the program office for
    testing in March 2008
  • Testing is on-going
  • The model should be completed by summer 2008
  • The new training course is in development
  • Expected release to users (including NMCI) is TBD

4
V8.0 Overall Changes
  • Data structure reformatted into objects this
creates a smaller footprint on the computer
  • Undo/redo functionality added
  • Required Simulation run time automatically
    calculated
  • Removal of secondary databases
  • Both primary and detailed level inputs are
    contained in a single database
  • This means larger and labeled sector buttons
  • Primary and detailed input level is chosen
    through use of checkboxes

Lifecycle Profile
  • Deployments and/or depot maintenance periods can
be scheduled on the lifecycle profile.
  • Allows planners to use the model to forecast
    deployment needs
  • OPTEMPO input types are based on whether or not
    deployments are scheduled

6
Manning
  • Manning requirements can now be input at a lower
level of detail if it is available
  • Inputs have also been expanded to include MSC
crew, KTR crew, and/or other special crew
  • Inputs have been added to allow for multiple
crews per ship and for personnel attributable
directly to the ship but not part of the crew
    (other unit level)

7
Depot Maintenance
  • Depot maintenance inputs have been expanded to 3
    levels of detail
  • Simplified /ship/year to use when very little
    maintenance detail is available availability
    periods are not scheduled
  • Moderate allows availability periods to be
scheduled on the life cycle profile with a
    /avail input
  • Detailed availability periods are scheduled on
the life cycle profile and specific details are
entered inputs can be for a Government avail,
    KTR avail, or mixed

Moderate/Detailed Depot
9
Throughputs
  • Throughtput inputs now allow mapping to a
    specific appropriation.
  • This allows the throughput values to be adjusted
when the datarecord base year is changed
  • Allows throughtputs to be converted to TY

10
Results
  • The new CAIG OS structure was released in
    December 2007
  • OSCAM results are mapped into the new CAIG
    structure

11
Uncertainty Tool
  • The uncertainty tool has been expanded to include
a choice of 10 different distributions
  • Unlimited variables may be chosen and the risk
distribution for each can be defined by the user
  • Dynamic graph of the density function with
    selected parameters is available
